At present the media affects peoples’
lives significantly. What impacts does this have on the society? Is it a
negative or a positive development?
It is true that nowadays, peoples’ lives are bombarded
with different kinds of media, particularly the social media. While there are
some irrefutable negative impacts it has bought to the community nevertheless,
this essay concurs that this is a positive development.
First and foremost, the media especially social
media sites such as Facebook, Twitter or Skype have undeniable detriments when
it comes to the special aspect of people. Communities that used to be close-knitted
are now rare. Families now are also weakened and this is mainly attributed to
the heavy usage of those social networking sites. Individuals at present almost
neglect to take part in community activities and lock themselves at home while
socializing with their friends online. Unfortunately, the negative effect of
this in the society is indeed significant if the general public would overlook
the importance of having a fellowship with their own folks in their community.
However, despite these downsides, it is also evident
that there are positive changes the media has brought to peoples’ lives.
Firstly, it made communication convenient, less expensive and faster. Indeed
most families who live apart rely on the social media applications to connect
with each other. Secondly, with such kinds of media flooding into peoples
majority of the population may meet new friends, learn and make friendly
relationships thus creating a more peaceful and harmonious world.
All things considered, while the social media has
led to social deprivation of people living as one in certain societies, the
effects of it is indeed opposite to others. With this situation, it is
recommended that social media site must be used responsibly to keep a balanced
social life.
