ACTIVITY 3 - EMERGING CULTURE/ORGANIZATION PROJECT

Students’ day is an annual event being conducted in my village at Taba-ao, Kapangan. It was first established on May 2010 by the University of the Philippines - Baguio (UP-Baguio) Professor Jimmy Fong and GBDAIS Extension School Head Dr. Cherrelene Comom.

SITIO ABIANG WITH THIER AGRO TRADE DISPLAY

It started previously as a sporting activity and with the consensus of Prof Fong and Dr. Comom, they have come up with a different approach of attracting student to participate in a community activity. What made it different is the addition of lectures to students about improving study habits and topics for successful. The most important activity is the recognition of graduates and board passers for they will be given simple tokens together with their proud parents.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE MODERN DANCE CONTEST

This annual activity takes two days and a night and includes street dancing, literary musical contests, indoor and outdoor games and beauty search for Mr. and Miss Students’ Model.  Games like basketball, volleyball, table tennis and board games happen simultaneously on the first day. Talent presentation of candidates for the Mr. and Ms. Student Model will be part of the afternoon session of the first day. On the second day, the community will be awakened by loud music of the students dancing along the road with their colorful costumes for the street dancing completion. Dances like ballroom and modern will follow immediately. Opening program and lectures for the students about improving study habits and inspiration stories for being successful will be conducted before lunch break. Afternoon session will be the championship game of the different games followed by the preparation for the search for Mr. and Ms. Student model.

STREET DANCING COMPETITION

The busiest night of the community happens during the coronation of the Mr. and Ms. Student model. This is the most anticipated and participated activity of the community as everyone takes part in the preparation. What made the beauty contest different is that the categories for the candidates are not the typical dresses that a beauty pageant has. Unique categories include vintage attire, international costume, and professional attire. Candidates are expected to give a strong and powerful message on their questions and answer category.

SEARCH FOR MS STUDENTS' DAY

It’s been 17 years that Students day is being conducted and this has changed a perspective of students may it be on their attitude towards improving and finishing their education or on their motivation to continue to develop their hidden talents. Success stories of students who had been part of the student day are continuously being counted and regardless if they finished their schooling or not, they would always utter how proud that they became a part of the Student Day.
